THE INTERCESSOR

Sarah knelt by Joe’s bedside,
With a Bible in her hand.
She said, “Lord, You know,”
“I just don’t understand.”
“I don’t question Your judgment,”
She said with a sigh.
“But, You know my Joe,”
“Just ain’t ready to die.”
“He sure has been wicked.”
“The facts are all there.”
“Not once in his life,”
“Did he ever utter a prayer.”
“He’s wasted good money,”
“On wine, women, and song,”
“While I took in washings and ironings ,”
“Just to get along.”
“Many a night,”
“I would lay here in this bed,”
“With a heart full of worry,”
“And a mind filled with dread.”
“He’d come home all bloody,”
“Where he had been in a fight.”
“Then, he would strike out,”
“At anything in sight.”
“But, when he had calmed down,”
“I’d help him get cleaned up again.”
“And he would say, “I’m so sorry,”
“With a big ole’ grin.”
“Well, things would be better,”
“‘Til the weekend rolled aroun’.”
“Then, he would put on his Sunday best,”
“And head for town.”
“Lord, I know he’s been ornery,”
“Wicked, and terribly wild.”
“But, won’t You please save,”
“Your wandering child?”
Then, Joe opened his eyes once more,
And gazed steadily at the bedroom door.
“Dear Jesus, please forgive me,”
She heard Joe say,
“”Come into my heart,”
“Before death takes me away.”
Then, the sweetest Presence,
Came into the room,
Dispelling every bit of doubt and gloom!
The old man slowly,
Took his last breath.
But, there was no fear,
Of the approaching of death!
Sarah slowly arose,
From where she knelt,
Rejoicing in the peace which she felt.
Once more God had answered her prayer,
And now her husband Joe,
Was safely in His care!

A Dream Come True

'Twas gettin' late afternoon,
And Joe knew it would be milkin' time soon,
For comin' close he could hear the cowbells ring!
He could hear the church bells chime,
And it was such a special time,
As he was day dreamin' in the front porch swing!

Joe had often dreamed of kings and queens,
Stately castles and courtly scenes.
But, lately there was a drastic change in his dreams.
You see, each time, he closed his eyes,
He could hear a young baby's cries,
And also hear its mother's screams.

Just last night at the missionary meetin'.
Joe's heart was swiftly beatin',
For the subject was serving God in a foreign land!
The missionary said, "Souls are dying lost over there!"
"Do any of you young folks care?"
"If so would you please stand!"

Though Joe's heart was about to burst,
He didn't want to be first!
However, he eventually arose,
He slowly looked around,
And surprisingly found,
That he was alone in the course he chose!

A few years later found Joe,
Preparing to go,
To be a missionary on a foreign shore!
Old friends were left behind,
For God's will he must find!
This mattered and nothing more!

There were mixed feelings in Joe's heart
When it was time to depart.
For it's hard to leave those you love.
But Joe forsook all,
To follow "the call,"
Of an all knowing, understanding God above!

Once in the foreign land,
Joe began to understand,
That his dreams had come true.
For there he found young babies dyin',
And their mothers cryin'
Surely there was a great work to do!

Though the work was great,
Joe did not hesitate,
To give the Lord his all!
With toil and with tears,
He spent his remaining years,
In obedience to his Master's call!

When it was time for his soul to take its flight,
Joe said, "I've fought a good fight, "
"And surely there is laid up for me, "
"A mansion and much more,"
"Over on that other Shore,"
"By the tree of life and near the crystal sea!

Yes Friend, far beyond mortal eye,
In the Sweet By and By,
Joe was greeted by Jesus, God's Son!
Tears were wiped away without a trace,
And with a smile on his face,
Jesus said, "My child, well done!"

WHAT AN EXPENSIVE HAIRCUT!

All Samson needed was a little nap,
So he laid his head in Delilah's lap.
He thought life would go on as it had before!
But, spending time in Delilah's lair,
Cost him more than his hair,
For later his future lay in shambles on the floor.

This man known for his might,
Lost his eyesight,
And wound up in a Philistine mill grinding corn.
The strongman was brought to his knees.
Then, his enemy mistreated him with ease.
No doubt Samson cursed the day he was born.

Ah, but Samson had a choice,
If he hadn't listened to Delilah's voice,
He could have been God's "Man of the hour!"
But his passions got in the way.
They kept him longer than ke wanted to stay.
Thus, his relationship with God turned sour.

Samson's story should be a lesson to you and me.
If we would be what God wants us to be,
At all cost, we must avoid satan's snare.

Each day we must read God's Holy Word,
And live up to the preaching we have heard,
While spending much time in prayer!

WHERE EAGLES SOAR!

Dear Lord, I sure would like to soar high,
Like an eagle where mountains seem to touch the sky!
High above the clouds of doubt and fear,
All thought of the world below would disappear!

I want to feel the Mighty Rushing Wind in my wings,
As I mount up to the throne of the King of Kings!
For you see, I've been so long here on the ground,
And eagles aren't made to just walk around!

An eagle is made to soar,
Away up high above the Earth's floor!
I Became earthbound because of a fall.
It sure looked like "I had lost it all."

Yes, I did a very foolish thing,
Which resulted in my having a broken wing.
At the time I was flying high and all alone!
I unwisely thought I could make it on my own.
That's when I was hit by satan's fiery dart,
Which found its mark upon my heart.

Then I started spinning 'round and 'round.
But, You quickly caught me e'er I touched the ground!
There were times when I saw others fall.
Who never made it back to God at all.

But, thank God through Your amazing grace,
In my situation, that was not the case.
Upon God's arm I have learned once again to depend!
And my wing has been on the mend!

Today, I felt great and I could tell,
That my wing was completely well!
So, when I heard God's beckoning cry,
I slowly began to fly!
Then, once again I began to soar
Never to be earthbound any more!
